During the past few years, outdoor lighting has greatly advanced in terms of energy efficiency, cost and utility.
There are individuals who will say that external lighting is not as significant as the ones inside the house while others will say that these products are just as important in their own unique ways.
In spite of all those arguments, nobody has disputed the statement that using outdoor lighting on the external areas that are near our living spaces offer extra levels of visual orientation, safety and security. Possibly one of the most imperative but least noticeable benefits of this is an ambient and warm front or backyard.
External Lights
External lights are basically sources of illumination that are installed in porches, decks, balconies, patios, facilities, fountains, spa, swimming pools, driveways, sidewalks, pathways, trees and flower gardens.
Since there are a lot of things in the yard that can be illuminated, there are some lighting techniques which are normally being utilised today. Here are some common practices:
- Shadowing
This method involves shining a direct light at the front of a highlighted object such as a shrub so that it gives out an attractive effect.
- Moonlighting
This has nothing to do with a second job for extra income. This technique has a light shining on a fixture which is then aimed downwards to form an effect like being illuminated by the moon.
- Silhouetting
The light-fixtures are placed at the back of the highlighted object so it creates a backlit shape instead of the precise texture and colour of the object.
- Spotlighting
This procedure makes use of a spotlight to illuminate architectural features. The homeowner must put the light where it fully illuminates the focal point and produces the least amount of wash-out and glare.
Other outdoor lighting techniques include sign-lighting, pond-lighting, fountain-lighting, path-lighting, step-lighting, wash-lighting, grazing and deck-lighting.
Remember that these products will be exposed to the elements, so it is a good idea to pick a brand that lasts long. Learn more about it here!
